Today’s Recipe:
The Bruja Smash
Cookbook: Ginger Bliss and the Violet Fizz: A Cocktail Lover’s Guide to Mixing Drinks Using New and Classic Liqueurs, by A. J. Rathbun
I’m a fan of tequila, and raspberries, and mint. But I’m not highly knowledgeable about liquors or liqueurs. So I had to do some research to find out that Strega — also used in the recipe for this drink — is an Italian herbal liqueur and that “strega” means “witch.” The liqueur is produced in the town of Benevento, legendary for its instances of witchcraft. The gorgeous gold color comes from saffron. According to less legendary and more modern medicine, saffron has anticarcinogenic and antioxidant-like properties. Good enough for me — I’m bewitched!
