The Tenth Day of Christmas Cookbook Giveaways — The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook
The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook
If you follow the world of food, cookbooks, and food blogs even just a little, you’ll have noticed the constant stream of “best cookbooks” lists that came out at the end of 2012. A couple years ago, when I had only recently discovered food blogs and started Cooks&Books&Recipes, I thought it would be fun to compile some of these lists and also to see which cookbooks came out on top of all 13 lists that I had chosen.
Doing so was certainly fun, but I soon discovered that someone else was also compiling the lists — and on a much larger scale. So this year I’m simply going straight to the source: Jane Kelly, over at Eat Your Books. If you haven’t discovered this website yet, and if you love cookbooks and love to cook from your cookbooks, head over there. Eat Your Books indexes most of the popular cookbooks, so you can include them in your online searches. You can also do a single search across all your recipes — from cookbooks, food magazines, food blogs, and even your personal recipe clippings. It’s like magic!
But to get back to the “best cookbooks” lists for 2012… Eat Your Books compiled 214 lists, consisting of 651 cookbooks. You can find it here. And for the Tenth Day of Christmas, we’re buying a copy of the #2 cookbook on the list — The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, by Deb Perelman (Knopf) — to give to one lucky Cooks&Books&Recipes reader.
Deb Perelman founded her award-winning blog, Smitten Kitchen, on the premise that cooking should be a pleasure, and that the results of your labor can—and should—be delicious, every time. Deb is a firm believer that there are no bad cooks, just bad recipes. She has dedicated herself to creating and finding the best of the best and adapting the recipes for the everyday cook. In her first cookbook, Deb presents more than 100 recipes—almost entirely new, plus a few favorites from the site—all gorgeously illustrated with hundreds of her beautiful color photographs.
The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook is all about approachable, uncompromised home cooking. Here you’ll find better uses for your favorite vegetables: asparagus blanketing a pizza; ratatouille dressing up a sandwich; cauliflower masquerading as pesto. These are recipes you’ll bookmark and use so often they become your own, recipes you’ll slip to a friend who wants to impress her new in-laws, and recipes with simple ingredients that yield amazing results in a minimum amount of time. Deb tells you her favorite summer cocktail; how to lose your fear of cooking for a crowd; and the essential items you need for your own kitchen. From salads and slaws that make perfect side dishes (or a full meal) to savory tarts and galettes; from Mushroom Bourguignon to Chocolate Hazelnut Crepe Cake, Deb knows just the thing for a Tuesday night, or your most special occasion.
Notes: There are six ways to enter the giveaway, but it’s not necessary to do all six entries. Choose whichever one(s) you like, and you’ll be entered in the giveaway. Giveaway ends at midnight (EST) on Sunday, January 13, 2013.
