Cooks&Books&Recipes Featured Cook Donna:
When you have a cookbook created by a cooking school, you expect there will be more than recipes. This book starts with descriptions of baking equipment and ingredients, then moves on to how to decorate and package cookies. I’ll admit that the equipment section was pretty basic. But let’s face it: there are people just starting to learn how to cook every day, and quite often, cookies are beginner projects. Anyone else can turn the page and get to making the goodies.
The recipes are organized by the type of cookie–drop cookies, bars, rolled, molded–ending with savory cookies. Yes, savory cookies–laced with cheese, peppers, and herbs. And some straight-up crackers, as well.
The book isn’t overloaded with photos many cookies are shown in group shots rather than individually. But there are also some instructional photos and diagrams for a few of the recipes, to help illustrate the instructions. For most, though, the instructions are clear enough to follow without the need for visual aids.
Want cookies? This book has them. And since it’s affiliated with a cooking school, you know the recipes are going to be reliable.
