Gluten-Free Baking: Indulgent Baked Treats, Naturally Gluten-Free Goodness
Monday, Fun-Day, Cookbook Giveaway! The first day of the week may not be something to get excited about in the work world, but here at Cooks&Books&Recipes it is. Because Monday is my day to give away another gorgeous cookbook!
Today’s cookbook is Gluten-Free Baking, from Williams-Sonoma.
Here’s why you want Gluten-Free Baking: Indulgent Baked Treats, Naturally Gluten-Free Goodness:
Many people expect that gluten-free baked goods will be less delicious and satisfying than those baked with wheat flour. Not so with these recipes, which are just as over-the-top delicious as any you would find in a bakeshop display case. Author Kristine Kidd is a former editor at Bon Appetit and a gourmet chef. When she learned that she had celiac disease, she made it her mission to learn to eat and cook as well as she had before, without skimping on healthy ingredients or flavor.
My favorite things about Gluten-Free Baking? Kidd emphasizes naturally gluten-free ingredients (e.g., eggs, cream, butter, nuts) and oats, rice, buckwheat and sorghum flours instead of prepared gluten-free flour blends. She offers an ingredient primer, a gluten-free pantry guide, basic recipes, and useful tips & tricks, along with chapters including morning treats, breads, cookies & cakes, pies & tarts, and puddings & custards. Plus, this is a Williams-Sonoma cookbook, so it’s filled with scrumptious photos (by Annabelle Breakey).
The Cookbook Basics:
Hardcover (8.5 x 9.5 inches)
128 pages, numerous color photos
Weldon Owen (December 2014)
My next-to-try recipes: Raspberry Oatmeal Muffins; Olive & Sage Flatbread; Blackberry Cornmeal Cake; Pine Nut & Almond Cookies
