Make Ahead Bread: 100 Recipes for Melt-in-Your-Mouth Fresh Bread Every Day
12 Days of Christmas Cookbook Giveaways, 2014:
Day 8, Make Ahead Bread
In Make Ahead Bread, Donna Currie offers a simple two-step process for baking delicious, fresh-from-the-oven yeast breads:
- Step One – mix and knead the dough, then let it rest for 1-2 days while you enjoy life.
- Step Two – bake.
Yes, it’s that simple. Your home will smell amazing while you bake any of the 100 recipes in Make Ahead Bread, including Loaf Breads (e.g., Bacon, Tomato and Cheddar Loaf; Maple Sugar and Walnut Loaf), Buns, Rolls, and Breadsticks (e.g., Slider Buns; Cheesy Breadstick Twists), Flatbreads (e.g., Chicago-style Pan Pizza; Semolina Focaccia), and Pastries (e.g., Breakfast Sausage Danish; Traditional Croissants).
Make Ahead Bread gives inexperienced bakers and busy home cooks the information they need to make freshly baked bread on their schedule. Just in case you have any leftover bread, you can use it in the recipes from the Leftover Bread chapter (e.g., Almond Butter Bread Pudding; Artichoke, Olive and Tomato Strata; Overnight French Toast). Another chapter features scrumptious butters and spreads (e.g., Chunky Apple and Cinnamon Spread; Chocolate Butter), and still another is devoted to baking ingredients and equipment.
Cooks&Books&Recipes Editors {Dee}, on Make Ahead Bread: 100 Recipes for Melt-in-Your-Mouth Fresh Bread Every Day
Full disclosure: the author of Make Ahead Bread, Donna Currie, is a Cooks&Books&Recipes featured cook. I am not a baker, so guess who I ask to review baking-related cookbooks? I was thus not at all surprised to learn that Donna had published her own cookbook, and I was thrilled when I learned her concept: all the recipes use her simple two-step process, meaning that I could fit bread-baking into my schedule — especially when I saw that many of the recipes looked simple enough for even me to try!
Now that I’ve successfully made my own aebleskivers from scratch, I can’t wait to try some of these other recipes that look easy enough for a beginner like me: White Whole-Wheat Honey Vanilla Buns; Ciabatta (my favorite store-bought bread, and yes, the recipe sounds simple!); Sourdough English Muffins (a bread I would never have considered baking before seeing Donna’s instructions). If you’re a more-experienced baker, Donna has you covered too: Sweet Bubble Loaf; Sticky Buns; Cinnamon Croissants; White Rye Sandwich Buns with Nigella Seed Topping.
Who knows? With Make Ahead Bread, maybe I’ll even consider myself to be a baker one of these days…
