THE RECIPE: Confession: we tested several summer cocktails from this book. Hey, it’s been hot this summer. Why have only one of these? But the Stoli Noir simply oozes summer evening cool, even in its name. Once you can find the agave nectar (our Safeway Grocery guy had trouble locating it for us) and the blackberry vodka, you’re all set. Except we never found blackberry vodka. Pomegranate, vanilla, orange, grapefruit, kiwi, pear but no blackberry. After three stores, we went with raspberry.

THE RESULT
. Cool, refreshing, fruity but not cloyingly sweet. This Stoli Noir recipe was just right to sip outside while cooking a light grilled dinner of shrimp with mango salsa. An equally good pairing would be steak with grilled pineapple.

Ingredients:

  • 3 fresh blackberries
  • 1 rosemary sprig
  • 1/2 oz. agave nectar
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 2 oz. blackberry vodka
  • garnish: lemon twist

Directions:

In a mixing glass, muddle the blackberries and rosemary with the agave nectar. Add the lime juice and vodka, top with ice cubes, cover, and shake thoroughly. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with the lemon twist.
