Cookbook: United States of Pie: Regional Favorites from East to West and North to South, by Adrienne Kane
It’s cookout time: Memorial Day Weekend holiday if you’re in the United States, summer if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere. We posted a fun (and low-cal) recipe for Bull’s-Eye Onion Burgers earlier this week, and we’ve got the recipe for some jumbo juicy ribs coming up, but what about dessert? In the Publishers Weekly Recipe Report, Marissa Rothkopf Bates (www.sugarandspouse.com) writes about “A Fluffy Pillow of Banana-y Goodness: The Pie You Need to Serve This Memorial Day.” It’s a Southern classic, she notes, nicely updated by Adrienne Kane (www.nosheteria.com) with “a quietly salty vanilla wafer crust and a layer of chocolate ganache … followed by traditional layers of sliced bananas, rich vanilla pudding and fluffy whipped cream.” When you’re digging in to that, it’s a holiday no matter where you are.
