Conjuring up her inner George A. Romero (producer of the classic zombie film Night of the Living Dead), professional cake designer Zilly Rosen (owner of Zillycakes bakery in Buffalo, New York) focuses her creative attention on crafting a legion of edible undead in Zombie Cupcakes: From the Grave to the Table with 16 Cupcake Corpses. With a nod to Romero’s zombie franchise, Rosen offers instructions for crafting 16 terrifying cupcake treats, including Toxic Bite, Zombie Rising, Keep an Eye Out, and Destroy the Brain. Readers can raise their own macabre multitude of Zombie Cupcakes creations from the undead with an average creation time of less than one hour. Each Zombie Cupcakes design includes a full-color photograph of the zombie creation at hand, as well as an illustrated instructional overview and a convenient sidebar list of every item you will need to complete the cupcake.

How much does our family love the Zombie Cupcakes cookbook by Zilly Rosen? Here’s a hint: our three kids–ages four, three, and three–take turns curling up with it during naptime. We all love Zombie Cupcakes, and the results are fantastic–even for people like us who lack a single ounce of crafty artistry. Filled with safely terrifying designs that are broken down into step-by-step instructions with helpful illustrations, the book offers cupcake recipes that are endlessly inventive and filled with joy. Undead joy, sure, but joy. We can’t wait to make the graveyard cupcakes during the week of Halloween. And if we have some extra fondant left, we’re determined to make the Eye PopperĀ cupcake, complete with a three dimensional eyeball bursting from the cake. Genius. We’ll make the next batch of Zombie Cupcakes fun just as soon as we can pry the book away from our kids.

I agree, Mary: chocolate is very good — and especially Oreo cookies and chocolate chips mixed together. :)
I am so rewarded as a teacher when I see a post like yours!!! You did a beautiful job, AND you had fun, which is so important! I used to tell my art students “perfection is overrated!”. So many people find themselves even afraid to try! I’m proud of your family!
Best, Zilly Rosen
